Genetic Diversity and Population Structure Analysis in the Chinese Endemic Species Michelia crassipes Based on SSR Markers

Michelia crassipes Y. W. Law (Magnoliaceae) is endemic to China and the only species with purple flowers in genus Michelia. It commonly used as an important parent for flower color improvement hybrid breeding. M. recognized endangered plant. An urgent need exists explore genetic diversity of efficiently select parents develop efficient conservation strategies. In this study, a total 128 samples were selected from seven natural populations their structure. A 14 microsatellite (SSR) markers high polymorphism repeatability developed, 218 alleles detected. This study mainly revealed three results: (1) The parameters expected heterozygosity (He = 0.536) mean Shannon’s information index (I 1.121) moderately levels population; (2) differentiation coefficient (Fst 0.108) showed that there was low level differentiation, AMOVA indicated variation existed within frequent gene exchange between populations; (3) population structure analysis originated two ancestral groups, Mantel test geographical distances significantly correlated. Our first population, which provides reference collection, utilization germplasm resources.
